This new version of Pad-Lock is free to all previously registered users. If you use Pad-Lock and have not paid for it please pay! In the future I will be forced to go to a system where the program will expire and you will be forced into paying if you wish to continue use! Let's not go into that system! Pay for your ShareWare, if you use it! Thanks...
About Pad-Lock
-----------------
Pad-Lock is one of those little utility programs you’ll grow to love. What it does is it makes an FKEY that when activated will lock the computer until you come back to it.
If you are at the office and feel like going to get a cup of coffee, and don't want anybody to touch your computer then you need Pad-Lock. Curious children and a business Macintosh at home do not mix to well! Say you are working on an important tax program and have to go to dinner or to check on the football score. Those curious children may go into the “computer room” and play with dad's computer, unknowingly doing something to dad's taxes! Instead of being chased by the IRS run Pad-Lock and your worries should be spared! This program does not provide full security, one can turn the computer off then back on, but nevertheless, you WILL know that somebody has used the computer.
Installing Pad-Lock
-----------------
To install Pad-Lock, simply choose Install Pad-Lock… from the FILE menu. A product has come on the market named 'Suitcase' that lets you run DA's, FKEY's, and Font's without putting them in the system file. This let's you easily back-up your system and keeps your system file small. If you use Suitcase choose the 'FKEY File (Suitcase)' button. If you don't use Suitcase choose 'System FKEY (Normal)'. When you are finished choosing your options click on the Install button. A dialog will appear informing you that the installation is in progress and if all goes well a dialog box will appear telling you the installation was successful.
Using Pad-Lock
--------------
Pad-Lock is compatible with all Macs and is fully Mac II compatible and will also adjust to ALL screen sizes. Pad-Lock when run will display a dialog box asking you for a Password you would like to use and will also give you a checkbox to leave a message. You will also notice a box off to the right. Once you are done with entering your password then press “OK”. Note that when you type the password in, the actual text won't appear, but little locks, each lock represents a character. This is to protect you just in case somebody is watching! In the box on the right will appear text telling you to re-type your password, in order to confirm your password. (It is easy to mis-spell your password, since your actual text of the password is not shown. And if there was not this feature, and you mis-spelled you password, good luck getting back to the desktop!) If you have re-typed the password incorrectly, the text box will tell you so, and you will have to start from scratch (You will have to enter the password again, then you will again have to confirm it.) If you have re-typed the password correctly and if you have checked the leave a message box than it will prompt you to type in the message you would like to leave. After you are done the screen will turn black and a lock will flash on the screen in random spots. To get back to the computer click the mouse button (you may have to hold it down for a second or two) and you will get a dialog asking you to enter the password. If you enter the wrong password it will display an alert that says your tampering has been noted and will go back to the blank screen. Once you enter it correctly and one has tampered with the computer an alert will tell you that somebody tried to use the computer while you were gone, otherwise you will immediately return to the Macintosh environment.
Pad-Lock Installer
-----------------
This installer has been made to make your life a whole lot easier. Included in the installer is 'Information...' which is what you are reading right now! Since previous versions, the information box is now fully multi-finder compatible and will conform to all screen sizes. Included are two buttons called 'Print' and 'Extract', due to popular demand. 'Print' when activated will five you a Print Dialog Box, choose your options and then click 'OK', and the full set of instructions will be printed. 'Extract' when activated will save the instructions to a text file so that you can print certain parts. When the SAVE Dialog appears, put in an appropriate name and choose 'SAVE'.
The registration form has been updated with more features as well. You now have the choice of getting updates sent to you for $5. If you are interested just click that box and send a disk along. I will send you back the disk in a mailer with the next update of Pad-Lock and I will also include other Mark 3 programs (The disk will be sent back full to the limit!). Of course you can get all updates through GEnie or CompuServe but by sending me the disk you will be guaranteed the update as soon as it is released. You will also noticed that I have asked what computer you are using. Please choose the appropriate box(s) since if you don't have a Mac ][ when I send you your disk back I will include non-Mac ][ software and fill the disk up with other Mark 3 Software.
Included in Pad-Lock's File menu is the command “Transfer”. This menu choice allows you to run another program immediately, rather than quitting to the Finder. After you choose this command, a dialog box will appear listing the applications on your disks. Simply click on an application’s name and then click on the Transfer button and you will be transferred to that application.
Registration
------------
Pad-Lock is being distributed on the ShareWare system. This entitles you to review Pad-Lock before paying for it; try it out and see if you feel it is a worthy addition to your software library. If you choose to keep Pad-Lock, you are on your honor to send in the $10 registration fee and become a registered user. Otherwise you must destroy all of your copies of Pad-Lock (or better yet, give them to your friends). You are at a real advantage in that you can use Pad-Lock before you decide if you want to purchase it—please don’t take advantage of that privilege. Considerable time was spent developing and perfecting Pad-Lock and sending in your registration fee will insure the development of many more high–quality, inexpensive programs.
To make registration easy for you, we have prepared a ready–made registration form which you may print out and send in along with the registration fee. Simply choose Print Registration Form… from the FILE menu (you may wish to choose Page Setup… beforehand to set your paper size) and the form will be printed out for you. Please feel free to include any comments you have about Pad-Lock in the space provided, we need you to help make Pad-Lock the best it can be! Please make all check payable to Mike Whittingham.

FKEY Mover -- A great utility to move FKEY's around. It is the same as Apple's Font/Da Mover except it deals only with FKEY's.
Pad-Lock -- An FKEY to protect your Mac while you are temporarily away from it.
Orator -- An FKEY to speak the date and/or time.
Screen-Dump ][ -- Includes 3 FKEY's that perform screen dumps on any Mac including the Mac II. The first one, Disk-Dump ][ will save to either MacPaint or FullPaint. Many features are available for larger screens to make the screen fit into the MacPaint dimensions. Second is Print-Dump ][ which will perform the same as Disk-Dump ][ but will dump to any Printer, including the LaserWriter. Last is Color-Dump ][ which is just for the Mac II. Color-Dump ][ will dump a full 256 color screen to either Pixel-Paint, GIFF, GrayView, or StartUpScreen format.
Scribe -- A utility to change your default font. When you startup with a word processor you may want to begin typing with a certain font other than Geneva. This program will let you choose which font you would like to use.
ProFont -- If you are a programmer, this is the font for you. It is a font that will make programming easier and quicker.
FullConvert -- A utility to convert MacPaint files to FullPaint files. This program can also change your screen dump (FKEY 3) to save as a FullPaint file, not MacPaint.
StudioSession Convert-- A Utility to let songs made for Studio Session work with the Demo player of Studio Session.
Zoomation -- A great program that will boggle your mind. It will zoom up to 8 different object on the screen. Click the random button and watch all object fly! This is free to all, and is for non-commercial use.
Big Menu -- If you use large screens you may need this! This program will let you choose 14 or 16 point font sizes to use in the Menu Bar and Dialog boxes.
